Zombie Cyborg Monkey is my second webstrip concept. I was contemplating popular culture moves, like how in the monkeys and apes flooded the comicbooks of the 50s and 60s, how cyborgs and robots were big in the 80s, and most recently zombies are flooding the market. So I thought, what if I combined them into one? This is my first attempt at a teaser, I think. I didn't want people to know that the strip was about a zombie cyborg monkey before they saw the character, so I just called it ZCM.
A lot of horror films take place in the south, and as a southerner I couldn't resist poking fun at some southern culture, which brought the idea of Earl and Buford tipping zombies and fighting over a Coors. Earl, buy the way, is wearing a Dale Earnhardt shirt. This strip represents my first attempt to use pacing to affect tension. Jamie represents every strong female from horror movies with a strange gothy, white trash spin. Jamie gets her name from the original scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis, from my favorite slasher flick: Halloween. Check out my first human zombie! I decided to go ahead tell the backstory of Jamie's Zombie Cyborg Monkey. I love evil geniuses and so we start with one, Doctor Cooper Wallace. The doc gets his name from Edgar Wallace and Merian C. Cooper, who created the concept of King Kong. The monkey, Seabrook, gets his name from W. B. Seabrook, the author of The Magic Island, the book which introduced the term -zombi- to the United States.
