Infantry #1 Written By: Joe Casey Art By: Clement Sauve and Blond Published By: Devil's Due Publishing
PLOT: 15 days ago, Charlie Alexander flies to an isolated island where Futura Pharmaceuticals had a research installation which suffered a disaster. Charlie's job is to determine whether Futura gets its insurance money. But Charlie soon discovers that the site was more than what his company had been told, and Futura wasn't just trying to create a better pain-killer. Currently, an organization known as Nemesis attempts to hire a villain calling himself The Marionette. However, before the deal can get hashed out, the meeting is interrupted by a silent assailant. The mystery "hero" makes short work of the Nemesis soldiers...Who is this mysterious man, and what is his connection to the disaster at the Futura Pharmaceuticals plant? This plot, high on mystery, provides a good introduction without revealing all the answers to who our protagonist is, and what his motivations are...I'm looking forward to learning more. Rating:
Originality: This issue was clearly just a set up for Brubaker's relaunch. It's hard to tell where Brubaker plans to go, but since it's a set up there's little original, but a lot of possibilities. Rating:
Characters: Captain America is one of Marvel's best characters, but so many people write him poorly because they feel the urge to make political statements in his stories...or they feel held back by the fact that Cap is not superhuman...but in the write hands Cap can be fun...Brubaker has set himself up for some fun...we'll see if he keeps it there or goes political... Rating:
Continuity: Brubaker's use of Bendis's Avengers Disassembled event is wonderful...continuity is perfect Rating:
Art: Epting's art is great for serious Captain America...and his Red Skull is one of the best I've ever seen...here's hoping we get to see him (Skull) by him (Epting) again. Rating:

PLOT: Finally, the origin of Hanna-Barbera's space bound superhero Space Ghost is revealed...and this is no Saturday Morning comic, kiddies. Thaddeus Bach had it all; a wife, child on the way, and a respectable job, peacekeeper. But when he is selected as a Eidolon Elite aboard the Wrath, his world turns upside down. He quickly learns that his drill sergeant leads a squad of Eidolon Elite Peacekeepers who dish out justice in the harshest manner. But straight laced Bach won't be a party to it. Unfortunately, the members of the Wrath aren't too accepting of his interest in turning them in. They kill his wife and unborn child...and maybe even him. It's hard to grasp such a serious tale around a character from a Hanna-Barbera cartoon...but that's the only negative. This first issue makes me wish that it was more than just a six-issue limited series...but at the same time makes me yearn for the innocence of my youth watching Space Ghost, and my later years of amusement watching Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. His origin isn't over and I'm both looking forward to the next issue...and dreading it. Rating:
Originality: The fact that Kelly took Space ghost and treated him seriously is enough to warrant a worm, but the fact that he took it to the extreme...this first issue alone, on a movie screen...there would be viewers in tears... Rating:
Characters: Space Ghost really was the best made-for-cartoons superheroes...The only other cartoon superhero that could pull something like this off is Blue Falcon...but Dyno-Mutt holds him back from a really serious treatment. Captain Caveman and Underdog don't even come close. Rating:
Continuity: The only drawback is that the serious nature of the story is a distraction if you can't keep the original cartoons or the more recent Space Ghost: Coast to Coast series out of your head. Rating:
Art: Painted comic books are always wonderful to see, and Olivetti does a very nice job here...and of course, Alex Ross's cover is beautiful. It's a shame it takes so long to paint comics pages because I always love them... Rating:
