In the Golden Age of comics, many heroes started wearing the spandex being frustrated in their efforts as police men and lawyers to keep criminals off of the street. Christos Gage takes that idea but adds a twist with John Dusk in Absolution.

John Dusk is a superpowered police officer. He has all the costume and power of your standard superhero, but also all the rules and regulations of a police officer. So what does he do with the sick criminals he apprehends? In Absolution #1, he begins acting as judge, jury, and executioner.

Superpowered Neo-Nazi White Power has abducted women and raped them, so when, in the course of subduing the criminal, John Dusk seriously injures him, rather than trying to stop his blood loss, Dusk lets him bleed out. But how far will he go?

Absolution is a look into how much horror a police officer can tolerate before he cracks. Gage makes us sympathetic for main character John Dusk, and adds some interesting supporting characters in The Servant and Alpha Bitch. Everyone should seek Absolution.
