Comic Book News Report: The Goon #31

Report: The Goon #31
Dark Horse Correspondents Team -
Eric Powell
Colors - Dave Stewart
The final showdown between the Goon and undead gangster Labrazio. Thanks to Buzzard, we learn where Labrazio was getting his power and Buzzard cut the source off, Mother Corpse, the mother of the demon babies. Without Mother Corpse, Labrazio was powerless to stop Goon's revenge.
The last few reports have been absent the usual comedic asides from Powell, but the battle between Labrazio and the Goon was certainly thrilling, and Powell's artist's depiction was certainly beautiful as always.
The Players:
Good Guys: The Goon, Franky, Buzzard, Isabella, Charlie and "Bill" Mudd. Wonderful anti-heroes the lot of them. The Goon is a classic, gruff character with a heart of gold that makes him physically tougher than most everybody else, but still capable opf being injured more deeply by betrayal from Isabella. Franky's loyalness to the Goon makes it easy to overlook his sexual deviancy. The Buzzard's grim existence due to being the only one to defy the Nameless Priest makes him one of the few Goon characters who could handle a solo series, and the Mudds, Charlie and the log stump he calls Bill after the death of his brother, are fun, if moronic.
Bad Guys: Labrazio, Nameless Zombie Priest, Lazlo, Mother Corpse - Some of the worst bad guys around. Truely cruel villains the lot of them. Labrazio kills Demeter, Specs of the Little, Unholy Bastards Gang. These are the greddy, evil villains we can love to hate.
News Rating: 4 Worms. I had to do some research to remind myself who everyone was because #31 didn't use a lot of names. Also, while The Goon stories all had a very dark streak, there was always room for humor and we got none here. I know it's the last issue of this culminating story, and I'm sure the humor will return...and it wouldn't have fit very well here, but we do expect some humor. I know we'll get it next time...in March.
