Comic Book Review: Tales to Demolish #1
Tales to Demolish #1Written and Drawn by: Eric Haven
Printed by: Spark Plug Comics
Available at: Demolition Comics
Story: “The Glacier”
Tales to Demolish seems to be a kind of Twilight Zone or Amazing Stories in indy comic form. Dedicated to Jack Kirby, who worked on many early Marvel monster stories before the Fantastic Four made superheroes viable, issue one of Tales to Demolish follows a glaciologist studying a glacier until an earthquake cracks the glacier revealing…well, I’m going to keep the reveal a secret.
I will say that like the monster strips in old Marvel anthologies, it’s a story of a man learning that there is more to the world that he feels he has control over and understand of and the truth of human existence isn’t anything close to our beliefs. Haven’s simple tale is a fun science fiction tale.
Probably more impressive is Haven’s minimalistic art is captivating and does a wonderful job of showing the expanse of the setting and man’s small place in the truth of their reality.

Looks more than a bit derivative of Jay Ryan, if only judging from its cover.
