Story: “Walls”

I’ve been loving the relaunch of the Justice League of America title. It’s been fabu! Great art, exciting stories, cool new characters new to the context of the Justice League.

But this issue left me feeling, meh.

Vixen, Red Arrow, and Black Lightning were fighting Doctor Polaris and at some point in the fighting, the Watergate collapsed on top of our heroes. This all occurs off panel and we start off with Red Arrow and Vixen buried alive. The two heroes work together to try and find a way out, mainly with Red Arrow keeping Vixen from panicking.

I’m not sure I understand the point of this issue. Sure, we find out that Vixen has the ability to duplicate the abilities of superhumans in her vicinity and that she had lost her ability to duplicate animal abilities. That would be interesting except she gets her animal abilities back by the end of the issue. I feel like I’m missing something, and I don’t mean the battle with Doctor Polaris. If the characters of Red Arrow and Vixen were having trouble trusting each other, or getting along in general, I could see how this issue serves a purpose, but I haven’t seen that conflict in previous issues. I just feel like I’m missing something, so if you have some insight, let me know.

Ha’s art, on the other hand, is wonderful. The details he puts into his panels is wonderful and conveys the pain and desperation that Red Arrow and Vixen feel.

So, I’m calling all comic readers…what am I missing in this wonderfully drawn, but otherwise pointless issue?

Rating: 2 1/2 worms, until someone can tell me what I'm missing...
