I haven't heard much about what people thought about Bomb Queen other than from people I know and they wondered why I bought more than the first issue. And I admit that I struggle with my opinion of Bomb Queen.
On the one hand, I think it's a novel notion. A whole city dominated by a supervillain who, unlike Doctor Doom, isn't really into being in control, but into having fun and wants the freedom to do whatever she desires. So New Port City has a mayor, so she doesn't have to get bogged in the daily doldrums of governing, and as long as the mayor makes decisions that don't hinder her desires, everything's fine. There are Crime Zones where any crime can be committed without fear of arrest. Bomb Queen has made New Port City a bizarre mix of hedonism and anarchy. A very interesting idea.
But, then in its execution, sometimes Jimmie Robinson, who wrote and drew the original series, took things just a bit too far for me to appreciate. The panel with the apparent incest was one which went too far, in my opinion. But he doesn't go too far so often that I can't enjoy what I feel is a novel concept.
So, I got this one-shot because of Bomb Queen. I knew of Blacklight before, but not much. The story is that both Blacklight and Bomb Queen are heading to Las Vegas, the real life city most like Bomb Queen's New Port City. Blacklight is heading there for Comic Convention, and Bomb Queen is going for a gun and knife convention...both held in the same hotel. Blacklight, a member of the Cape-Watch website in her secret identity as Lina Juarez, identifies Bomb Queen after a brief encounter and figures out why she's there...to steal a state of the art gun.
Several pages of fighting and bickering commence when Blacklight interferes with the robbery attempt. In the end, Bomb Queen outsmarts Blacklight, gets the gun and returns safely to New Port City.
Nothing really special with this comic, but I did enjoy seeing Bomb Queen again, although a bit more subdued since she can be arrested outside of New Port City. Blacklight seems like a good enough character, but didn't really distinguish herself here as all that interesting.

3 1/3 Worms - The Bomb Queen series consistently had at least 4 Worms (in my mind, I never reviewed them here), but a subdued Bomb Queen and an unimpressive Blacklight loses us half a worm
