Advice for Aspiring Comic Writers

Ok, I discovered recently my wife didn't realize I really would like to be a comic writer. I've mentioned it before, and I've discussed script ideas and comic concepts with her, but she never realized I was serious...until recently.

I've said and intended to do similar time frames before, so I make no promises...Wait, I skipped the detail about what I am talking about. I told my wife that I was going to try and get at least most of a 4 issue script written out before the end of the summer, show to some people I trust for honest criticism, and then see if I can shop it around.

What sparked this renewed dedication to trying to get something published? Write Now! #12...

This issue of Write Now!, while giving some writing pointers, specifically about theme, and talking about webcomics, of which I have a few, this issue spent a good deal of space on talking about how a writer can get hired. I read the pointers and thought, "I could do that..."

Well, save for not being able to write...but, I'm working on that.

So...along with teaching summer school, and organizing my comics which are strewn randomly throughout the house, and trying to blog more often, and get my webcomics out more regularly, and play more City of Heroes, and spend more time with my wife and children, along with all of that, I'm going to write a four issue script for one of my dozen or more ideas...yeah, how could this plan go astray.

Seriously, though...if you want to write comics, get a hold of Write Now! #12. If you can, get a subscription...but at least get that issue.

Also, if you want to see how bad a writer I am, check out my webcomics:

Wrong and Crosswise - My homage to my favorite comic villains, the evil geniuses.

ZCM: Zombie Cyborg Monkey - My homage to horror in all its forms.

Rockhard Adventure Comics - My one panel homage to the Golden Age of comics.

What can I say...I'm an homagy...homagey?...guy.
